Acknowledgements for Tallinn City Office

European Green Office

The Tallinn City Office reached the intended objective by implementing an environmental management system in the building at Vabaduse väljak 7, for which they received the European Green Office certificate.

“In our green office, we follow sustainable principles of water, electricity and paper consumption and waste generation, while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said Toomas Sepp, City Secretary. “A green office is part of the good practice concept of the Tallinn City Office. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the implementation of the environmental management system in the City Office.”

The certificate was issued by the Estonian Association for Environmental Management. The Green Office system started with the “European Green Office Network” project, launched in 2011 under the EU’s Leonardo da Vinci Programme. A Green Office certificate is awarded to organisations committed to creating environmentally sustainable and employee-friendly workplaces.

Systematic action in this field contributes to sustainable use of natural resources and reduced waste generation, with the resulting cost savings and a healthier work environment. Many companies and institutions have realised that, in addition to reduced overhead costs, sustainable energy and resource consumption, i.e., introducing the Green Office system, can also motivate the staff, strengthen the team and improve the reputation of the organisation. An environmental management system is an element in the general management system of an organisation and its aim is to reduce the impact of the operations on the environment and people.
