Ferdi Sannamees

Ferdi Sannamees (11. november 1895 Otepää kihelkond, Arula – 25. jaanuar 1963 Tallinn), kes oli tuntud eesti skulptor. Tuli Eesti kunsti 1920-ndatel aastatel. Tolle­aegses väikese­arvulises skulptorite­peres hakkas ta varsti juhtivat osa etendama ja selline positsioon säilis elu lõpuni. Tema loomingu põhiosa moodustab vaba­skulptuur − portree ja figuur. F. Sanna­mehe lemmik­materjaliks kujunes pronks, kuigi ta on sisukaid töid loonud ka puust, marmorist, graniidist ning keraamikaski.

1918−1919 õppis K. Mäe ateljees ja 1919−1924 Pallases, alguses maali ja graafikat, lõpetas kujurina. Täiendas end 1923 Dresdenis kujur K. Albikeri juures ja ka Pariisis. Oli 1923−1925 Pallases kipsi­valu­õpetaja, 1925−1927 Riigi Kunst­tööstus­kooli õppe­töö­koja juhataja ja õpetaja ning 1928−1941 Tallinnas vaba­kunstnik.

Sannamees oli eesti skulptuuri silma­paistvamaid portretiste. Loonud ka figuure ja monumente, nagu Vabadus­sõjas langenud õpilaste ja õpetajate mälestus­sammas Tallinna reaal­kooli juures ja A. H. Tammsaare ausammas Albus.

Ferdi Sannamees

Ferdi Sannamees (born 11 November 1895 in the Otepää parish, in Arula – died 25 January 1963 in Tallinn), who was a well-known Estonian sculptor. He entered the Estonian arts sector in the 1920-s. In the small sculptor family of the time, he soon came to play a leading role and he maintained the respective position up to the end of his life. Most of his creations are free-standing sculptures – portraits and figures. The favourite material of F. Sannamees was bronze, although he had made substantial works also from wood, marble, granite and ceramics.

In 1918−1919, he studied in the studio of K. Mägi and in 1919−1924 in Pallas; he started with studying painting and graphic art, but ended up as a sculptor. In 1923, he studied further in Dresden under the supervision of the sculptor K. Albiker and also in Paris. In 1923−1925, he was a teacher of plaster casting in Pallas, in 1925−1927, the manager of the State Art Trade School study workshop and in 1928−1941, a freelance artist in Tallinn.

Sannamees was one of the most remarkable portraitists in the Estonian sculpture sector. He has also created figures and monuments, like the memorial monument for students and teachers killed in the Estonian War of Independence situated near the Tallinn Secondary Science School and the monument for A. H. Tammsaare in Albu.
