Childbirth allowance

Childbirth allowance is granted to a parent of the child, provided that according to the Population Register, both parents were citizens of Tallinn before the child was born and according to the Population Register at least one of the parents had lived in Tallinn for at least a year before the child was born. The benefit is granted based on a certificate from a medical institution or family doctor, provided that the mother of the child was registered with pregnancy before the 12th pregnancy week and has been regularly monitored by a doctor. According to the Population Register the child has to be a citizen of Tallinn since birth and live on the same address with the benefit applicant.

A parent of the child can submit an application for childbirth allowance in six months after the child was born. The benefit is paid in two parts: 50% of the benefit is paid after the child has born and 50% when the child becomes one year old, provided that according to the Population Register the child and parents have been citizens of Tallinn constantly, since the child was born and until the child becomes one year old. The benefit is paid on the birthday of the child, according to valid rules and amount.

Multiple (3 and more children) childbirth allowance is granted to the parents of multiple children, provided that according to the Population Register both parents had lived in Tallinn for at least a year before the children was born. The benefit is granted based on a certificate from a medical institution or family doctor, provided that the mother of the children was registered with pregnancy before the 12th pregnancy week and has been regularly monitored by a doctor. According to the Population Register the children have to be citizens of Tallinn since birth and live on the same address with the benefit applicant.

You can apply for the one-time childbirth allowance from the City of Tallinn immediately after the child’s birth has been registered, if you claim to have such a wish and submit the certificate from a medical institution or a family physician proving, that the mother who gave birth to the child was registered before the 12th pregnancy week and had been monitored by a physician regularly.
