Tallinn City Centre consists of the historical Old City and the surrounding suburbs with wooden buildings erected in the end of the last and the beginning of the present century. These houses have been steadily reconstructed and new modern stone buildings have been added to the area. The general look of the buildings is quite diverse. Most of the governmental and cultural institutions of Tallinn (and the republic) are located here. A steady liquidation of industry in this area is under way. There are more job locations here than residents. Because of the growing "city" role (particularly around the Old City and the port) the purchase/rent prices in this area are the most expensive not only in the city but the whole republic.

Territory: 30,6 km2
Population: 48 622
