European Capital of Culture 2011

On 28th of March 2006 the Ministry of Culture decided to name Tallinn the European Capital of Culture 2011.

Tallinn submitted the bidding application to Estonian Ministry of Culture on 10th of October 2005. In addition to Tallinn, Pärnu Tartu and Rakvere were also interested in becoming culture capitals in 2011.

09.10.2005 Estonian Ministry of Culture announced that Tallinn and Tartu were shortlisted to proceed to the second stage of the bidding process and on 28th of March 2006 Tallinn was chosen to be the European Capital of Culture 2011.

Tallinn will share the title with Turku of Finland.
