Certification for marrying abroad

Issuing a certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage evidencing there are no hindrances to contract a marriage outside the Republic of Estonia.

According to Estonian Law, the prerequisites to contraction of marriage are the following:
- a marriage is contracted between a man and a woman;
- the marriage is contracted between persons who have attained the aga of 18 years (exception by Family Law section 1 subsections 3 and 4);
- prospective spouses must not be consanguines (blood relatives);
- a prospective spouse must not be already married.

    Personal identification

    Have an identity document with you. If your previous marriage has ended then also the document that confirms it.

    What to do with the form

    Fill out the application at the official's workplace.


    You will receive a certificate of having no circumstances that would hinder getting married.

    What to do when the result is unsatisfactory:

    To achieve the result follow the recommendations of the official.
