Funeral payment

You are entitled to a death grant if all of the following criteria are met:

  • you are organising a funeral for a deceased whose last place of residence was in the City of Tallinn,
  • upon filing the application, you declare that you are incurring the funeral expenses,
  • you have filed the application within six months of the date of death.

Application – you need to file the application within six months of the date of death to be eligible for the grant. If you are not a relative of the deceased you need to indicate your connection to the deceased in the application. You need to produce proof of funeral expenses upon request.

Awarding – the grant is awarded if all eligibility criteria are met.

Payment – the grant is paid within 30 days of filing a duly completed application or requested documents. The death grant is paid once per funeral.

The amount of the grant is 250 euros.

    The most convenient method for applying for the death grant is to file an application to the vital statistics office upon registration of the death by using the online service, by submitting the application at:https://taotlen.tallinn.ee/matusetoetus

    The application may also be submitted to the social welfare institution of the last official place of residence of the deceased by a digitally signed e-mail or to deliver the application to the institution.

    What to do when the result is unsatisfactory:

    The Social Welfare Department of the local district administration deals with further processing and benefit payment. To achieve the desired result follow the instructions of the social worker.
