Healthy Workplace

Winners of the “Healthy Workplace 2010” competition were announced on 25 November 2010. The Tallinn Education Department was presented the special award for “Best in Engagement”, which was accepted by the Head of Department, Andres Pajula.

The title of “Best in Engagement” was won by the Tallinn Education Department for its intranet health promotion that includes healthy recipes, physical exercises and videos, examples of correct posture and other similar resources. It also features a settling-in program for new employees. The best employees are recognised on a monthly basis and major achievements are highlighted.

The yoga exercises of the Education Department during lunch breaks were mentioned as one of the more original ides. Shared team events were another important factor in winning the award, as all employees of the department take turns to organise such events that create added value for health, as well as for mental and emotional welfare.

The competition was won by A-Selver. In addition, there were two other special awards: Inspired Communications Plc. was named as the “Most Athletic Team” and Mari Pre-school of Põltsamaa was recognised for the "Most Innovative Idea”. The awards were presented by Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Social Affairs, at the conference “Healthy Workplace – A Key of Success for Employers” held in Clariton Hotel Euroopa.

The competition was announced in early September by the National Institute for Health Development (NIHD) and the “Tervis Pluss” magazine, in cooperation with the Labour Inspectorate and SORAINEN law firm. Out of a total of 41 submitted questionnaires, the experts of the NIHD selected a shortlist of 15 that advanced to the second round. They included: TNT Worldwide Ekspress Eesti, Tallinn Education Department, Pärnu Vesi, East-Tallinn Central Hospital, Mari Pre-school of Põltsamaa, Tallinn Children’s Hospital, Tartu University Hospital, Swedbank, Tartu University, Tax and Customs Board, Inspired Communications Plc, Kaarli Dental Clinic, Coca Cola HBC Eesti, A-Selver, and Balteco. In the second round, the contestants were visited by occupational health and health promotion experts. Based on their reviews, the jury decided the winners in the last week.
