Bicycle City Tallinn

One of the priorities of the Tallinn 2035 development strategy is developing convenient bicycle infrastructure in the capital. In order to achieve this goal, the construction of a complete main network of cycling paths will continue, bike-friendly safe school roads will be designed and parking facilities close to homes and schools will be supported, cycling culture will be improved and traffic safety will be promoted.

  • In 2022, Tallinn started the “Bike to school” programme aimed at schoolchildren, which allows parents to apply for a one-time subsidy of up to 100 euros for the purchase of a bicycle for children aged 10–15 who have received a bicycle license in the year of application or the year before. In addition, it is possible to apply for a subsidy for the purchase of a bicycle helmet.
  • In order to raise cyclists’ awareness on how to safely store their vehicle and prevention of theft, the city in cooperation with the police initiated the “Lock it or lose it” information campaign.
  • Information about the location of cycling paths, electronic free bicycle parks or public bicycle maintenance points on health trails can be found here.
