Tallinn Rises in IMD's 2024 Smart City Index

Tallinn Rises in IMD's 2024 Smart City Index

The 2024 edition of the IMD Smart City Index has seen Tallinn make significant progress, positioning it as a city on the rise. The index, produced in partnership with the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), evaluates 142 cities globally on factors such as openness, innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Tallinn is highlighted as one of six cities that have either maintained their position or moved up the rankings, joining the group of "super champions" that includes Zurich, Oslo, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, and Seoul. This indicates that Tallinn is becoming increasingly attractive and satisfying for its residents.

The index findings reveal that North American cities, including those in the United States and Canada, have fallen in the rankings, reflecting growing dissatisfaction among their residents. In contrast, European and Asian cities continue to dominate the Top 20, demonstrating their ability to design and adopt strategies that can withstand future uncertainties.

By tracking the progress of cities over the past five years, the index provides valuable insights for policymakers, helping them anticipate future trends and identify best practices from high-performing cities like Tallinn.
