Glehni rahula (Glehn’s cemetery)
Glehn’s cemetery is located at 13 Lossi Street. Nikolai von Glehn established a cemetery in 1896 after his wife Carolina Henriette Marie von Glehn passed away. Nikolai von Glehn wanted his wife’s grave to be near the castle and seen from the window. Later his son’s Manfred’s children − Barbara Maria (1902) and Ulrich (1904) − were buried there. Glehn’s idea of the cemetery was that it should become a mysterious and sacred place. Different isles, ditches, ponds and bridges have been designed for the cemetery. Aspens, birches, firs have been planted in the park. In the meantime the cemetery was neglected, but the ponds and ditches have been dredged, the stone bridges got reconstructed, the benches, fencing masonry and street illumination were built up lately. Today’s Glehn’s cemetery is nevertheless smaller in shape than the original one.
