mWatch 2006
Tallinn – most interactive city in Europe
Tallinn is the leading European city in terms of wireless internet and mobile solutions according to a survey report prepared by the respective EU cooperation network.
At the conference on information society technologies (IST), “European IST 2006 – Strategies for Leadership”, attended by 3,000 representatives from European countries, Tallinn was named as the city with the most developed wireless internet and mobile solutions in Europe, based on the results of the mWatch Europe 2006 survey. Helsinki was the runner up, and the Swedish city of Lund came third.
“Living Labs Europe” is a cooperation network for European capitals and large metropolitan areas in the EU. The state of the art of information and communication technology in 21 European cities was assessed as part of a new project of the network. The final ranking was based on the network’s own surveys and measurements, not the data presented by the cities.

The list of surveyed cities includes London, Stuttgart, Barcelona, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Istanbul, etc.
According to Jaanus Mutli, Vice-Mayor of Tallinn, this is a major recognition for the city’s long-term determined efforts in innovative IT development and successful cooperation with the business sector.
The Living Labs Europe network has, in recent years, been actively involved in distribution of information and assessing the state and use of innovative mobile and interactive applications in different fields. This includes, for instance, development of multiple mobile communication environments: mStudent for students, mDoctor for physicians, mTourist for interactive tourism services, mTeacher for teachers, etc.
