All tram lines in Tallinn to resume operation from August 19

All tram lines in Tallinn to resume operation from August 19

Starting Monday, August 19, all five tram lines in Tallinn will be back in operation. Tram services had been temporarily disrupted due to the construction of the Old City Harbour tram line and the construction of a grade-separated railway crossing at Tondi.

Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan confirmed that the construction of the Old City Harbour tramway is nearing completion, allowing for the new route to open at the beginning of next year. "Tram line No. 2 will be routed to the Old City Harbour, initially running from Kopli to Old City Harbour to Suur-Paala. Once the construction of the Rail Baltic Ülemiste terminal reaches a stage that allows tram passage, it will then continue towards the airport," said Järvan.

"Strategically, the completion of the new tram route enhances the reliability of Tallinn’s tram network, allowing trams to turn back towards the city center if an accident or breakdown occurs on any branch. Additionally, the new tram line will increase the capacity of trams at the Hobujaama intersection," explained the Deputy Mayor.

This week, only tram lines  No. 3 and 4 are operational. Tram services towards Kopli are suspended until the end of August 18 due to water and sewer construction at the Kopli, Sitsi, and Tööstuse intersection. During this period, tram services on the Kopli-Mere puiestee route are replaced by temporary bus line 52, departing approximately every 10 minutes.
