Apartment building renovation day in Mustamäe
On December 3, the Estonian Union of Co-operative Housing Associations (Eesti Korteriühistute Liit), in collaboration with the City of Tallinn's SOFTacademy project, is organizing an Apartment Building Renovation Day at the Innovation and Business Center Mektory (Raja 15, Tallinn). The event will introduce practical solutions for modern and environmentally friendly building renovations.
The Mustamäe Renovation Day focuses on the comprehensive renovation of apartment buildings. Attendees can listen to expert presentations, participate in discussion panels, and ask questions. Leaders of housing associations with renovation experience will share their success stories and lessons learned. Representatives from organizations supporting renovation services and financing, including the Estonian Wooden House Association, LHV Bank, Swedbank, and SEB Bank, will also be present.“In Tallinn, around 5,000 old apartment buildings need to be renovated by 2050. Achieving this goal requires thinking about holistic, neighborhood-based solutions,” said Andres Jaadla, Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Union of Co-operative Housing Associations. “The Renovation Day aims to clarify the renovation process, inspire, and provide support so that housing associations can successfully implement their plans. The experiences and knowledge of practitioners are a valuable resource for anyone just beginning their journey,” added Jaadla.
The SOFTacademy project, led by the City of Tallinn, aims to spark a wave of renovations through a neighborhood-based approach, comprehensively upgrading both buildings and courtyards while applying the principles of the European New Bauhaus.
“If we work together to create a market for renovation in Estonia, we can grow our prefab house factories, create jobs, and export factory-made renovation solutions to the wider European market,” said Tallinn's Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere.
As part of the SOFTacademy project, the pilot area in Mustamäe on Akadeemia tee includes the renovation of buildings at Akadeemia tee 4, 6, 14, and 22, as well as their shared courtyard. The approaches developed for upgrading the courtyard will also be applied to a "replication area" in the courtyard of another housing association. The criteria and application conditions for becoming a replication area will be announced at the Renovation Day. The selected housing association will receive €300,000 to improve their courtyard.
Becoming a replication area is an excellent opportunity for housing associations in the Mustamäe district to transform their courtyards into modern and safe living environments.
