Bike lane construction set to start in July
Due to the new phase of the Old City Harbour tramway construction, traffic management will be adjusted around the Linnahall intersection area starting Monday, July 1, and a segment of Rannamäe tee will be temporarily closed to facilitate the construction of a bicycle path.
“Alongside the tramway, we are also transforming the surrounding urban space by constructing bicycle paths that align with Hobujaama Street, Narva maantee, and Rannamäe tee, in accordance with the city's bicycle strategy,” explained Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere. “On behalf of drivers, I request those who can to use public transport and bicycles when traveling to the city centre as this will help reduce congestion and facilitate smoother traffic flow on the roads.”To accommodate the construction of a bicycle path compliant with Tallinn's bicycle strategy, a section of Rannamäe tee between Väike Rannavärav and Pika Street will be closed on July 1. The existing bidirectional pop-up bike lane on Rannamäe tee will be replaced by a bike path separated from the sidewalk and roadway, extending from Pika Street towards Mere puiestee.
Improvements will be made to existing pedestrian and bike path connections between Rannamäe tee, Põhja puiestee, and the streets of Kai and Rumbi. Additionally, the project area will see enhancements to landscaping and street lighting. Traffic on Rannamäe tee is scheduled to be restored on August 28.
From July 1, traffic arrangements will also change around the intersection of Põhja puiestee and Mere puiestee—city centre-bound traffic will be partially redirected back to Mere puiestee, and normal traffic flow towards Kalamaja will resume on Mere puiestee and Põhja puiestee
