Caution advised during winter weather conditions
Ongoing snowfall has mobilized over 170 maintenance vehicles on Tallinn's streets, with snow removal and anti-slip measures continuing around the clock. Nevertheless, caution is advised as winter weather creates challenging road conditions.
According to Elari Udam, Deputy Head of Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department, city and district contractors are working day and night to keep streets and pedestrian areas as clear as possible. “All city roads and streets are maintained according to priorities,” said Udam, adding that significant efforts have been made over the past 24 hours to combat snow and ice.Over the past weekend, an average of 174 maintenance vehicles and 135 manual labor teams were deployed daily for street cleaning and maintenance. Approximately 885 tons of chlorides, 8.72 tons of chloride solution, and 65 tons of granite screenings were used for de-icing. Additionally, more than 6,200 m³ of snow was removed from the city over the weekend, with a total of over 25,000 m³ removed so far this season.
“Despite these efforts, it is not possible to completely mitigate the impact of severe weather conditions. We urge everyone to be particularly attentive and follow traffic rules to ensure safety for themselves and others,” said Udam. “We also call for patience and personal responsibility. Drivers should adapt their speed to road conditions and avoid sudden maneuvers, while pedestrians are advised to wear footwear that provides traction on icy surfaces.”
Tallinn will continue snow removal and de-icing as long as weather conditions require. For more information, visit www.tallinn.ee/lumi.
