City Council Scholarship awarded to 15 master's and doctoral students
The annual City Council Scholarships were awarded to master's and doctoral students at the Jaan Poska House yesterday. A total of 15 scholarships amounting to €36,000 were granted.
The City Council Scholarship (Raestipendium) is aimed at supporting master's and doctoral students whose research is related to Tallinn, holds practical value for the city, or contributes to solving significant issues faced by Tallinn.Deputy Mayor Andrei Kante noted that this year's competition received 33 applications from six universities. "Previously, applications were only from higher education institutions in Tallinn, but this time we had candidates from the University of Tartu and the Estonian University of Life Sciences. The broadening of university participation in the program is highly encouraging," said Kante.
"The students are most interested in areas currently in the wider societal focus. The awarded research topics ranged from the city's club culture to plant physiology and also covered fields like energy, digitalization, segregation, and civil protection. The city appreciates the dedication to research focused on addressing the specific challenges faced by Tallinn," stated Kante.
From Tallinn University of Technology, master's students Joanna Laast, Karl Järve, Birgit Russka, Kiur Kalme, Ergo Pärnits, and doctoral students Dmitri Nikitin, Kertu Lepiksaar, Lauri Hass, and Laura Mrosla received the scholarship. From Tallinn University, master's students Paula Johanna Rõuk, Esther Linask, Krista Erg-Scacchetti, and doctoral student Luke Stange were awarded. From the University of Tartu, doctoral student Elina Maarja Suits, and from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, master's student Johanna Etverk received the scholarship.
All submitted scholarship applications were evaluated by two experts, whose opinions formed the basis for the decisions made by the Education and Research Cooperation Commission. The scholarship for master's students is €2,000, and for doctoral students €3,000.
