Construction work on second phase of Vanasadama tram line to divert 27 bus lines
On Tuesday, 4 April, the second phase of the Vanasadam tram line construction work will begin and with that, Hobujaama Street and half of Laikmaa Street in the direction of Gonsiori Street will be closed. Narva mnt and the Hobujaama intersection will remain open. The construction work will cause changes to 27 bus line routes.
Access is granted to every resident in the area (see plan in attachment). You must be cautious when passing through the construction zone, follow traffic control signs and instructions of the site staff and make sure that it is safe to pass by working machinery.From 4 April to 31 May 2023, buses 1, 2, 8, 9, 11, 14, 18, 18A, 20, 20A, 23, 29, 31, 34, 35, 38, 40, 44, 46, 48, 51, 55, 60, 63, 67 and 68 will be rerouted and bus 15 will change.
Stops of the rerouted bus lines in the city centre:
The temporary Viru stop on Pärnu Highway towards Narva mnt: bus lines 14, 18 and 18A will make their final stop on Pärnu mnt after the Drama Theatre (no more departures from the Viru Keskus bus terminal). You can transfer to lines 5, 20, 20A, 36, 73 at the Viru stop.
Estonia stop at the Theatre Square: lines 3, 9, 11, 15, 16, 17, 17A, 23, 31, 54, 55, 67, 68. Kaubamaja stop on Kaubamaja Street: trolleybus lines 1 and 3 and bus lines 2, 11, 42, 46. On the side closer to Kaubamaja, lines 3, 31, 46, 55.
From the Viru Keskus bus terminal, routes 1, 29, 40, 48 will depart and their final stop will be on A. Laikmaa tänav, together with the county lines. On those lines, only the route towards the city centre will change.

The result of the Vanasadam tram line construction work in the summer of 2024 will be a nearly 2.5 km section of a new tram line that starts at the crossing of Kivisilla and Gonsiori Street and end on Põhja pst. The installation of the tram rails will be followed by installing pavement on the road and sidewalks, traffic control equipment, bus shelters and other urban fixtures and greenery along the tram line route by the beginning of 2025.
