Ehte Street renovation completed in Põhja-Tallinn

The reconstruction of the section between Ehte Street and Kolde puiestee in Põhja-Tallinn has been completed. New, wide sidewalks and improved street lighting were built around Ehte School to enhance safety for students and local residents.

“Tallinn has built wide sidewalks on Ehte Street to ensure students can safely travel to school. Let me remind you that as an executive body, Tallinn is obligated under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to prioritize children’s interests in city governance, and that is exactly what we are doing,” said Tallinn Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere.

Commissioned by the Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department, Tallinn Teede AS began the reconstruction of the access road to Ehte Humanitaargümnaasium in the summer of 2024. The project involved upgrading the road structure along with underground utilities and installing new street lighting. Maintenance work was also carried out on trees in the area. Additionally, new paved sidewalks and parking spaces were built, making the urban space safer and more pedestrian-friendly for all users.

Põhja-Tallinn District Governor Külli Tammur emphasized that the goal was to make the road safe and accommodating for all modes of transportation. “The space is now better planned, and children’s routes to school are secure,” said Tammur.

Furthermore, the area was landscaped with the planting of 23 golden currants, 119 geraniums, 77 sharp-leafed feather grass, and 97 Japanese spireas, adding greenery to the public space.

The new street design was developed by T-Model OÜ, and construction work was carried out by Tallinna Teede AS.

The total cost of the construction work was €479,000, with most funding provided by the City of Tallinn and €48,000 contributed by co-financier AS Tallinna Vesi.
