Free bulky waste disposal campaign, November 18-24
From November 18 to November 24, the Tallinn Circular Economy Center is organizing another campaign, allowing city residents to dispose of bulky waste at city waste stations free of charge.
Each resident can drop off up to 3 cubic meters of bulk waste for free, which roughly equates to the capacity of a passenger car trailer. The campaign is aimed at individual residents, so personal identification, such as an ID card or driver's license, is required. The offer does not extend to legal entities, including apartment associations.
“Although it’s possible to arrange bulky waste pickup through your waste management provider, these free campaigns make sorting and disposal of bulky waste more accessible and help keep the environment clean. Sorted waste can gain a new life, as it can be reused either as raw materials or in other sustainable ways,” said Deputy Mayor Margot Roose.
The previous bulky waste disposal campaign took place in August, during which a total of 1,883 cubic meters of bulky waste was brought to waste stations. There were 1,966 transactions for waste drop-offs, accounting for approximately one-third of all transactions during that period (6,165). The collected waste is handed over to Tallinn’s Circular Economy Center’s partner, AS Green Marine, which prepares it for further processing.
Bulky waste includes items like furniture and its parts (e.g., sofas, tables, shelves), carpets and other floor coverings, mattresses, curtains and curtain rods, large flowerpots, coat racks, mirrors, sports equipment, skis and sleds, and baby strollers. For easier handling, sectioned furniture should be disassembled before bringing it to the waste station, and bulky waste should be well-packed for better storage. There is a separate container at the waste stations for mattress storage.
Bulky waste does not include construction and renovation debris (e.g., toilets, sinks, bathtubs, windows, doors, wallpaper, paint rollers); hazardous waste (e.g., empty paint cans, asbestos); problematic items (e.g., vehicle parts, tires); scrap metal; electrical and electronic devices (e.g., washing machines, televisions, refrigerators, stoves); or other waste covered by producer responsibility.
Tallinn’s Circular Economy Center (formerly known as Tallinn Waste Center) has waste stations located in Pääsküla (Raba 40), Rahumäe (Rahumäe tee 5a), Pärnamäe (Ristaia tee 8), and Paljassaare (Paljassaare põik 5).
In addition to bulky waste campaigns, the waste stations also offer year-round options for eco-friendly waste management and item reuse. Reusable item rooms are available at the Pääsküla and Paljassaare waste stations, as well as the Lilleküla circular economy center (Mustjõe 40).
