Free bulky waste drop-off for Tallinn residents from May 12–18

Free bulky waste drop-off for Tallinn residents from May 12–18

From May 12 to 18, residents of Tallinn (as registered in the population register) can once again bring their bulky waste—such as unusable furniture, bicycles, or baby strollers—to the city’s waste stations and the Lilleküla Circular Economy Centre free of charge.

During the campaign period, each resident can dispose of up to 3 m³ of bulky waste free of charge, which is roughly the size of a car trailer. Since the campaign is intended only for residents officially registered in Tallinn, an ID card or driver’s license is required for identification. The campaign does not apply to legal entities (including apartment associations).

Tallinn’s Circular Economy Centre operates waste stations in Pääsküla (Raba 40), Rahumäe (Rahumäe tee 5a), Pärnamäe (Ristaia tee 8), and Paljassaare (Paljassaare põik 5), as well as the Lilleküla Circular Economy Centre at Mustjõe tn 40.

Deputy Mayor Margot Roose noted that this bulky waste collection campaign is a good example of how the city can support environmentally conscious choices by residents and promote the circular economy. “Sorting and reuse are not just waste management issues—they're part of a broader strategy toward a more resource-efficient and cleaner urban environment. Every time an unwanted item from home gets a second life—either in someone else's use or as recycled material—we take a collective step toward a better future,” said Roose.

What counts as bulky waste:
Furniture and parts (e.g., sofas, tables, shelves); carpets and other floor coverings; mattresses; curtains and curtain rods; large flowerpots; coat racks; mirrors; sports equipment; skis and sleds; baby strollers.
Sectional furniture should be disassembled before being brought to the waste station, and bulky items should be properly packed for efficient storage. There is a separate container at the station for mattresses.

What does not count as bulky waste:
Construction and renovation waste (e.g., toilets, sinks, bathtubs, windows, doors, wallpaper, paint rollers); hazardous waste (e.g., empty paint cans, asbestos); problem items (e.g., car parts, tires); scrap metal; electrical and electronic equipment (e.g., washing machines, TVs, fridges, stoves); other producer-responsibility waste.

In addition to these collection campaigns, the waste stations are open year-round to support eco-friendly waste handling and item reuse. Reuse rooms are available at the Pääsküla and Paljassaare waste stations and the Lilleküla Circular Economy Centre (Mustjõe 40). Reuse containers are also located at the Rahumäe and Pärnamäe stations.

The collected bulky waste is handed over to Tallinn Circular Economy Centre’s partner, AS Green Marine, which prepares the material for further processing and recycling.
