Free large waste disposal: November 20-26 for all residents
From November 20 to 26, the fourth annual large waste disposal campaign of the year will take place. Residents of Tallinn can dispose of their large waste items free of charge at local waste treatment plants.
Tallinn Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm noted that visitors to the waste treatment plants can contribute to a smoother campaign week. “To facilitate transportation and efficient use of space, we encourage residents to disassemble unusable sectional or assembled furniture before bringing them to the waste treatment plants. For items that are still usable, they can be given a second life. The reuse rooms at Paljassaare and Pääsküla waste treatment plants accept such items free of charge, even outside the campaign period," explained Vimm.During the campaign, each resident can dispose of up to 3 cubic meters of large waste, equivalent to the capacity of a single car trailer, free of charge. For identification, residents should bring their ID card or driver's license. The campaign does not apply to legal entities, including housing and apartement associations.
Although large waste disposal is included in the organized waste collection service and can be arranged through waste collectors, registered residents of Tallinn have this special opportunity next week to dispose of their large waste at any waste treatment plant in Tallinn for free.
The waste treatment plants are located in Pääsküla (Raba Street 40), Rahumäe (Rahumäe tee 5a), Pärnamäe (Ristaia tee 8), and Paljassaare (Paljassaare põik 5). Opening hours and information about disposing of other types of waste can be found on the Tallinn Waste Centre's website.
Large waste includes unusable furniture and parts (e.g., sofas, tables, shelves), floor coverings, mattresses, curtains and curtain rods, large flowerpots, coat racks, mirrors, sports equipment, bicycles, broken skis and sleds, strollers, and Christmas trees.
Large waste does not include construction and renovation waste (e.g., toilets, sinks, bathtubs, windows, doors, wallpaper, paint rollers), hazardous waste (e.g., empty paint cans, asbestos), challenging waste items (e.g., scrap vehicle parts, tires), scrap metal, electrical and electronic equipment (e.g., washing machines, televisions, refrigerators, stoves), or other waste subject to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.
