Future plans unveiled for Kopliranna green area
Tallinn aims to transform the Kopliranna green area into an extension of the Stroomi beach promenade, creating a natural and harmonious space for coastal walks, recreation, and exercise.
The landscape design concept for the Kopliranna green area is inspired by the sea. The terrain rises and falls like waves, allowing the integration of the planned promenade, seating along the pathways, and various activity zones into the landscape. The new network of paths will extend from the northern boundary of Stroomi beach to the Meerus harbor, which is also set to develop into an attractive residential area in the future.
“We want to create a modern recreational area in Kopliranna with minimal intervention, maintaining its familiar, slightly rugged and unfinished character while also offering a range of activities,” said Tallinn Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere.
In addition to the promenade, the plans include playgrounds, sports areas, infrastructure for winter swimming (such as restrooms and changing cabins), and a dog park. Improvements will also be made to the existing garage walls, the shore platform, and additional tall greenery will be planted. The area will feature essential lighting for safety, with low-level pollard lights used in areas near residential buildings to prevent light pollution.
“Stroomi beach park is a popular place for leisure, and I’m delighted that the Kopliranna section of the promenade will offer more recreational opportunities, such as a long-awaited dog park, a safe area for winter swimming, and restrooms and other facilities. This project will open up more of the coastline and encourage residents to enjoy outdoor activities,” said Põhja-Tallinn District Governor Külli Tammur.
The site plan and detailed description are available on the project website (in Estonian). The public presentation of the project will take place on November 14 at 5:30 PM via Teams.
