Hazardous waste collection rounds return in October

Hazardous waste collection rounds return in October

The Tallinn Circular Economy Center (Ringmajanduskeskus) will once again organize hazardous waste and reusable item collection rounds on two weekends in October. On Saturday, October 19, the collection rounds will take place in Kristiine and Pirita districts, and on Sunday, October 20, in Nõmme and Lasnamäe. In Põhja-Tallinn and Haabersti, the collection will be held on Saturday, October 26, and in Kesklinn and Mustamäe on Sunday, October 27. Waste can be handed over free of charge.

Deputy Mayor Margot Roose emphasized that the collection of hazardous waste and reusable items is part of Tallinn's ongoing effort to reduce waste generation and promote waste sorting. “Through these collection rounds, residents can conveniently dispose of unnecessary but usable items and hazardous household waste near their homes,” Roose explained.

During the collection rounds, Tallinn residents can dispose of household hazardous waste and reusable items free of charge.

Two trucks will be stationed at each designated stop—one for hazardous waste and the other for reusable items. The schedule and truck stops can be found on the Tallinn website and in the district newspapers and websites.

These collection rounds help ensure that materials are recycled and reused, preventing them from ending up in household waste or the environment. Hazardous waste will be processed and recycled by Epler & Lorenz AS, while reusable items will be passed on to the Reuse Center, which facilitates their redistribution. Descriptions of hazardous waste and reusable items are available on the Tallinn website.

Larger reusable items (such as furniture) and functioning household appliances (such as refrigerators, stoves, etc.) are not accepted during the collection rounds. These can be taken to the reuse rooms at the Paljassaare or Pääsküla waste stations or to Uuskasutuskeskus stores.

In November, a large waste disposal campaign will be launched for Tallinn residents, offering free disposal of bulky waste.

The collection rounds are organized by the Tallinn Circular Economy Center. For more information, call 616 4000 or visit the Tallinn website at tallinn.ee/keskkond/ohtlike-jaatmete-ja-kasutuskolblike-esemete-kogumisringid.
