International animal welfare conference brings together experts in the field

International animal welfare conference brings together experts in the field

The Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department, in collaboration with the Estonian Society for the Protection of Animals (ELS), is organizing the fifth International Animal Welfare Conference. The event will take place from October 4 to 5 at Erinevate Tubade Klubi in Telliskivi Creative City. The conference welcomes all animal enthusiasts, particularly those who work with or care for animals.

This two-day event, dedicated to promoting animal welfare and rights, will feature a wide range of discussions and presentations. Experts from the UK, Finland, and Estonia will share their extensive knowledge and experiences in the field.

"Ensuring a brighter future for animals requires prevention and up-to-date knowledge, both of which this conference offers. Our understanding of animal welfare is continually evolving, and international best practices help us reach meaningful solutions more quickly," said Hellika Landsmann, Head of Pet Welfare Services at the Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department.

The first day of the conference is geared toward professionals and volunteers working in the field of animal protection, while the second day will take the form of a seminar aimed at all pet owners and animal lovers.

"There will be useful information for those involved in prevention, legislation, and hands-on assistance, such as rescue and care. Attending the conference provides a unique opportunity to influence the future of animal welfare," said Geit Karurahu, Board Member of the Estonian Society for the Protection of Animals (ELS).

International experts will include Mark Randell from a British animal protection organization and Maria Eiskop from Finland's SEY animal welfare organization. British behaviorist Amber Batson will address issues related to animals with difficult backgrounds.

The second day will feature seminars on topics such as the care of small and exotic animals, the culture of pet ownership, and the issue of stray animals. The event will conclude with discussions on working dogs and training for misbehaving dog owners. The conference will be moderated by Evelyn Valtin, a member of ELS with extensive experience in animal welfare.

The conference offers simultaneous translation between Estonian and English on the first day, while the second day will be conducted in Estonian only.
