On Museum Sunday, you can visit the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia again

This Sunday, 7 May, the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia will again participate in a free of charge Museum Sunday after being closed for the winter season. Due to construction works and various events, the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds Visitor Centre will not take part in the Museum Sundays until August.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, Kaarel Oja, spring has brought several new exciting exhibitions to Tallinn's museums and thus there is good reason to visit the museums again, even if you have already done so recently. “The same theme – nature in the city and urban space – is presented from very different angles in Dan Mikkin’s exhibition ‘Nature Takes Over’ opened at the Museum of Photography courtyard at the end of April and Anne Parmasto's jubilee exhibition ‘From the Shelf from the Drawer behind the Cupboard’ opened at the beginning of May at the Eduard Vilde Museum,” said Oja. “The Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia’s opening exhibition of the season ‘Farewell, East! Farewell, Narcissus!’ is certainly topical and important as well.”

According to Kadi Kesküla, the Head of the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia, visitors are invited to the current exhibition on Eastern Europe and the war in Ukraine. “The exhibition has only been open for two weeks and has received very touching feedback from our visitors,” said Kesküla. “On Museum Sunday, we offer free guided tours in three languages (Estonian, Russian and English) and the recently renovated new reception area is also open.”

On 7 May, the following Tallinn City Museum branches will open their doors to all those who have pre-registered: Tallinn City Life Museum (Vene tn. 17), Museum of Photography (Raekoja 4/6), Tallinn’s first community museum in Kalamaja (Kotzebue 16), House of Peter the Great (Mäekalda 2), Kiek in de Kök Fortifications Museum (Komandandi tee 2), Tallinn Russian Museum (Pikk 29a).

Without pre-registration, you can visit three literary museums in Kadriorg: the museums of Vilde (Roheline aas 3), Tammsaare (Koidula 12a) and Mati Unt (L. Koidula 17); as well as the gallery of the Culture Centre Kaja (E. Vilde tee 118), Tallinn Art Hall’s Lasnamäe Pavilion (Jaan Koorti 24), Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (Kursi 5) and Nõmme Museum (Jaama 18).

The next free of charge Museum Sundays in 2023 will take place on 4 June, 2 July, 6 August, 3 September, 1 October, 5 November and 3 December.
