Odra Street to reopen for traffic on 19 May

Construction works on Odra Street are nearing completion, and the street will be reopened to traffic starting Monday, 19 May. Bus routes 54 and 67 will also return to their normal routes.

Odra Street was temporarily closed from 5 March to 15 June due to the reconstruction of the intersection and installation of underground utility lines. The works were completed ahead of schedule, and the street will reopen almost a month earlier than planned.

The City of Tallinn rebuilt the Odra Street intersection as part of the larger Lastekodu Street reconstruction project. Tallinna Vesi AS installed new water, stormwater, and sewage pipelines, while Utilitas OÜ laid new district heating and cooling pipelines.

“Odra Street is reopening a month earlier than planned thanks to thorough preparatory work before construction began. I want to thank the builders for their cooperation and the residents for their patience,” said Tallinn Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere.

Major reconstruction work continues on Lastekodu Street. To calm traffic between apartment buildings, the city is building raised intersections and constructing new sidewalks and cycle paths. To reduce noise and improve safety, the speed limit on Lastekodu Street will be lowered to 30 km/h.

In addition, the city will install new lighting, benches, and waste bins, and plant a large number of new trees and shrubs.

“The Keldrimäe area will gain a central street with excellent accessibility, supporting a strong business environment and improving residents' quality of life. It will also become a key cycling route connecting the city centre with Ülemiste and Lasnamäe,” added Pärtel-Peeter Pere.

The reconstruction project is commissioned by the Tallinn Urban Environment and Public Works Department and carried out by TREF Nord AS and Magma AS. Construction supervision is provided by TPJ Inseneribüroo OÜ.

The total contractual cost of the construction work is approximately €14 million, most of which is funded by the City of Tallinn, with €5.3 million co-financed by Utilitas OÜ and €3.6 million by Tallinna Vesi AS. VAT is added to these amounts.
