Õismäe Pool now equipped with a lifting device for people with disabilities

The Õismäe Pool is now equipped with a lifting device designed to help people with mobility impairments easily access the pool. The device was purchased and installed with support from the Tallinn Social and Healthcare Department’s Accessibility Fund.

“The city has a responsibility to provide equal opportunities for all residents to enjoy active leisure time. Installing the lifting device at Õismäe pool is a step forward in our plan to improve accessibility in city facilities,” said Karl Sander Kase, Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, adding that a similar device is already successfully in use at the Sõle Sports Center pool.

Kaarel Oja, Deputy Mayor responsible for sports, emphasized that improving accessibility is a top priority for Tallinn. “Our city’s sports facilities must be open to everyone, regardless of their mobility. Installing this device at Õismäe pool is part of a broader strategy aimed at creating equal opportunities for sports activities. We also have an obligation to provide modern and accessible solutions for people with special needs,” said Oja.

The lift allows individuals with mobility impairments to safely and comfortably enter and exit the pool. The staff has been trained to use the device, and users can independently operate it with a remote control, although assistance is available if needed. The city and pool staff are committed to providing comprehensive support to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit for everyone.

Visitors are encouraged to schedule their regular visits in advance with the pool to ensure the best possible experience for all parties involved. Detailed information and contact details can be found on the website lips.tallinn.ee.
