Project for new bicycle path connecting Kadriorg and Reidi tee presented
Tallinn is preparing to build a bicycle path connecting Poska Street and Reidi tee to enhance the city's cycling network and make walking and cycling more convenient. The public presentation of the main project for the bicycle path between Poska Street and Reidi tee will take place online on Wednesday, September 4 at 17:30.
"We are building bike lanes so that walking, cycling, and the use of public transport together account for more than half of all movements in Tallinn. This would eliminate traffic jams and allow smooth driving in the city for those coming from farther areas, such as Nõmme or Pirita," said Deputy Mayor Pärtel-Peeter Pere.
City Centre Governor Sander Andla added that the purpose of roads is to connect areas and people. "To ensure that each new road fulfills this purpose in the best possible way, I encourage residents to participate in discussions and presentations concerning new roads. This way, they can stay informed about developments and contribute to the process," said Andla.
The proposed bicycle path will connect Reidi tee and Poska Street, linking maantee with Reidi tee and providing access to the Pirita’s promenade. The path, along with the adjacent pedestrian path, is planned along the current pedestrian route.
The route selection ensures the preservation of existing trees, taking into account the location of park trees and their root protection zones. In the northern part of the project area, the path will have gentle curves in tree-free sections to blend more naturally into the park setting.
Rest areas with benches, bicycle racks, and trash bins will be installed along the pedestrian and bicycle path. Additionally, a new surface solution is planned for the route between Narva maantee bus stop and Tuukri Street, as well as Liivaoja Street 4 and Narva maantee. All unlit park paths will be equipped with external lighting solutions.
The preliminary project for the bicycle path was presented to the public in May 2024, during which feedback from city residents was collected.
The public presentation of the main project (in Estonian language) will take place on September 4 at 17:30 via Microsoft Teams (https://bit.ly/3XhEsCX).
