Student music competition "Tallinn Talent" returns
The Tallinn Education Department has announced the citywide student music competition “Tallinn Talent 2025”, which will culminate in two competition rounds and a grand final concert at the Estonia Concert Hall. Registration is open until February 6, 2024.
The "Tallinn Talent" competition is aimed at students aged 7–19 from Tallinn's general and hobby schools. Now in its fifth edition, the competition seeks to recognize and inspire musically gifted students.
According to Tallinn Mayor Jevgeni Ossinovski, “Tallinn Talent” is an excellent opportunity for talented young people to showcase their skills and passion for music. “Participating in this competition allows young musicians to compare their abilities with others, share experiences, and build valuable connections. As a UNESCO City of Music, Tallinn provides young artists with opportunities for creativity and self-expression, helping them launch their careers. Through this competition, participants gain professional feedback and expand their musical horizons,” said Ossinovski.
The competition, initiated by the City of Tallinn, is open to both soloists and ensembles in two categories: classical music and rhythm & folk music. Participants can choose from vocal music, instrumental music, or original compositions. This year, students or ensembles who have previously earned the title of "Tallinn Talent 2023" or "Tallinn Talent 2024" are not eligible to participate.
The competition will take place in two rounds: a video round and a stage round. A jury of renowned musicians will select participants for the second round, with the results announced from March 6–8, 2025. The rhythm and folk music round will be held at Tallinn College of Music and Ballet (MUBA), while the classical music round will take place at the House of the Blackheads on March 22–23. In the second round, the jury will select 20 outstanding participants who will be invited to perform at the grand final concert.
The 20 best young musicians will be awarded the winner's title and a one-time scholarship of €1,000. The scholarship is intended for participating in competitions, masterclasses, and training in Estonia or abroad, or for purchasing musical instruments.
Registration for “Tallinn Talent 2025” is open from November 29, 2024, to February 6, 2025.
