Talented music students invited to "Tallinn Talent" competition

Talented music students invited to "Tallinn Talent" competition

For the third time, Tallinn is organizing the Tallinn Talent music competition, which aims to highlight and support musically talented students. The twenty-two best participants will be awarded the title of the city's most talented young musician and a one-off scholarship. Registration for the competition closes on 13 February.

"Music has always been part of Tallinn's culture and identity, and I am delighted to see that the Tallinn Talent competition supports Tallinn's important goal as a UNESCO City of Music - to motivate and support young talent," said Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart, the initiator of the competition. "I encourage all student musicians in the capital to try out the competition to gain valuable performance experience and hear feedback from professionals in their field. Participation in the competition can also be a game changer for a talented musician, as the city will support the best young people with a scholarship to participate in international music competitions."

In 2023, there will be two categories for soloists and ensembles: vocal music and instrumental music, both with a choice between classical, popular and folk music, and improvisation. You can compete in more than one category. A special feature of the competition is that the participant who chooses an original composition must also use one of the recordings proposed by the organizers, the "Voice of Tallinn". The voice may be either a vocal or an instrumental work.
The competition will be organized in two rounds - a video competition and a live presentation. The winners of the second round will be selected by a jury of renowned musicians. The performances will take place on 25 and 26 March and 1 April and are open to the public.

The Tallinn Talent competition will culminate on Tallinn Day, 15 May, with a festive closing concert, where the two dozen winners will be awarded a one-off grant of €1,000 to attend competitions, masterclasses and training courses in Estonia and abroad, or to buy musical equipment.

The competition is open to all musically talented students of Tallinn's general and recreational schools aged between 7 and 19 years (as of 13 February 2023). The registration form must be filled in by the student's teacher or a representative of the educational institution and the deadline for submission is 13 February 2023.

According to the terms and conditions of the competition, students and ensembles who have been awarded the title "Tallinn Talent 2022" are not allowed to participate this year.

The competition is coordinated by the Tallinn Education Department. For more information on the organization and conditions of the competition, please visit the following website tallinn.ee/tallinnatalent.
