Tallinn City Council opens nominations for Citizen of the Year

Tallinn City Council opens nominations for Citizen of the Year

The Chairperson of the Tallinn City Council, Maris Sild, has declared the nominations open for the Tallinn Citizen of the Year award. Nominations are accepted until November 1, 2023.

According to the Chairperson of the Tallinn City Council, Maris Sild, the Tallinn Citizen of the Year election is a great opportunity to highlight those citizens of Tallinn who often contribute to the city's development in seemingly unnoticed ways. "I encourage all residents of Tallinn to recognize and acknowledge these individuals," said Maris Sild. Last year, the title of Citizen of the Year, initiated by the City Council, was awarded to Natalja Mjalitsina, the head of Räägu School.

Kandidaate saab esitada linnavolikogu veebilehel https://www.tallinn.ee/et/tallinna-aasta-linnakodaniku-valimine oleva vormi kaudu kuni 1. novembrini 2023.

The Tallinn City Council initiated the Citizen of the Year election in 2018 to recognize citizens of Tallinn who, over the past year, have contributed to enhancing Tallinn's international reputation, improving the life in the city, making it better place to live, or have accomplished a remarkable deed. Both individuals and legal entities can nominate candidates, but the nominee must be a registered resident of Tallinn. Nominations can be submitted via the form on the City Council's website https://www.tallinn.ee/et/tallinna-linnavolikogu until November 1, 2023.

In the Tallinn City Council, a commission for the Citizen of the Year election is formed, which includes representatives from all factions of the City Council. The recipients of the 2023 Tallinn Coat of Arms award are also invited to participate. The chairperson of the commission is the president of the City Council.

In addition to the honorary title, the Citizen of the Year receives a glass keepsake made by designer Riho Luuse, onto which a piece of the nearly 300-year-old copper roof from The Cathedral Church of Saint Mary’s is glued.

The honorary title of Citizen of the Year and the accompanying keepsake will be presented at the Tallinn City Council meeting at the end of November.
