Tallinn in cooperation with SA Tallinna Hambakliinik compensates dental health care of financially disadvantaged senior citizens

The city of Tallinn in cooperation with SA Tallinna Hambakliinik, starting 1 August, is offering the opportunity to receive dental health care services costing up to 500 euros for financially disadvantaged seniors. Coverage for dental care expenses can be applied for by Tallinn residents of retirement age who have received need-based support three or more times over the previous year.

According to Deputy Mayor Betina Beškina, the city is compensating the dental care expenses of financially disadvantaged seniors living in Tallinn in cooperation with SA Tallinna Hambakliinik, as dental care services are expensive and as a result are inaccessible for many senior citizens. “Through the cooperative project, the elderly will, following certain requirements, be able to receive dental care at the Tallinn Dental Clinic. An elderly person who has received need-based (income-dependent) support between 1 January to 31 December 2022 three or more times and needs dental care services per a treatment plan or dentures following a direct decision from a dentist can receive up to 500 euros worth of services,” said Beškina.

The decision regarding whether dentures are needed is made by the dentist, and dental care services are rendered per the treatment plan composed by their dentist and on the basis of a matching price list.

Compensation for dental care expenses can be applied for by anyone who is considered a Tallinn resident of retirement age according to the population register, meaning following section 7 of the pension insurance law, generally someone of 65 years of age, or lower depending on the mentioned provision.

The necessary confirmation letter is provided to the applicant by a given district’s Welfare and Health Care department as determined by their place of residence, which must be presented to the dental clinic in order to fulfil the requirements for receiving support.

Support can be applied for until 30 June 2024 or until the support budget has been exhausted. The project budget is 200,000 euros and expenses are covered by SA Tallinna Hambakliinik.
