Tallinn Day events to start with a street sweepers’ parade
On Tallinn Day, May 15, the traditional washing of the city streets will take place, which also marks the finish of this year’s Urban Maintenance Month. The street sweepers will start moving from Pirita road towards the city centre at 8 am.
Deputy Mayor Kalle Klandorf noted that the washing of the city streets is a good start for celebrating the city's birthday and it also puts an end to the Tallinn Urban Maintenance Month. "Due to the corona restrictions, big events cannot be held, but a clean urban space is a joy for all of us, and with the street washing day we thank and appreciate the people who work for it on a daily basis," said Klandorf. "The cleaning of the streets from winter debris started in March, and during the Urban Maintenance Month that started in April, the streets were also thoroughly washed. The spring cleaning of the main roads and major streets was completed by the 1st of May."
The sweepers of Tallinn’s maintenance partners collected a total of 4,015 tons of debris and 415 tons of municipal waste during the spring maintenance. On average, there were 36 street cleaning machines and 26 craft brigades with a total of 51 maintenance workers during the cleaning work. The contract partners of the districts also cleaned another 1,340 tons of debris and the maintenance unit of Kadriorg Park nearly 200 tons of debris. A total of approximately 10,000 m³ of water was used for street washing.
On Tallinn Day, 17 washing cars will start on Pirita road. The city's maintenance partners AS Eesti Keskkonnateenused, Tänavapuhastuse AS, Tallinna Kommunaalteenused OÜ and the cleaning unit of the Kadrioru Park will participate in the street washing day with their machines.
Street sweepers move on the route Pirita tee, Reidi tee, Narva mnt, Smuuli tee, Punane tn, Mustakivi tee, Peterburi tee, Pärnu mnt, Kaarli pst, Luise tn, Endla tn, Mustamäe tee, Ahtri tn, Jõe tn, Pronksi tn, Liivalaia tn, Mere pst, Põhja pst, Rannamäe tee, Toompuiestee etc.
The 30th Urban Maintenance Month in Tallinn began on April 15 and ends on Tallinn Day on May 15. From May, regular street washing and cleaning will continue on the basis of summer maintenance requirements.
