Tallinn Residents to Trial New Smart City Solutions

Tallinn Residents to Trial New Smart City Solutions

The City of Tallinn has selected three innovative projects through its "Test in Tallinn" program competition, offering residents the opportunity to experience smart city solutions designed to enhance their quality of daily life.

Deputy Mayor Margot Roose confirmed Tallinn's commitment to partnering with innovation projects for testing and development in the urban environment. "Implementing modern technologies in our cityscape is a crucial step towards a smarter, greener, and more inclusive city," Roose stated. "I'm delighted to see how new technologies are helping us manage resources more efficiently, engage citizens in urban development, and improve accessibility for all in Tallinn."

The selected projects for urban testing include:

  • Interactive Audio Infrastructure by Omni Audio: Focuses on improving public space accessibility by creating a personalized audio system to assist visually impaired people individuals with navigation. Collaboration with the Port of Tallinn and the Estonian Association of the Blind ensures the solution addresses local needs.
  • Citizen Engagement Platform by CoTown: Enables residents to actively participate in planning and executing city maintenance and improvement works in the Mustamäe district, increasing community involvement and satisfaction.
  • Smart Relays by Gruff Technology: Allows control of household electrical devices, optimizing energy usage based on hourly market prices. This solution aims to help Tallinn residents reduce electricity bills by up to 25%.

The up to 12-month testing period will evaluate the efficiency and utility of these solutions. The City of Tallinn will support companies by identifying suitable locations (city properties, facilities, buildings), coordinating with relevant municipal departments, and providing necessary open data when possible.
