Tallinn supports the restoration of 54 buildings this year

Tallinn supports the restoration of 54 buildings this year

The city allocates a total of €400,000 of restoration grants to 54 applicants, the maximum grant amount being €30,000.

According to Deputy Mayor Madle Lippus, restoration grants are important both for preserving Tallinn's distinctive architectural heritage and for achieving environmental goals. "Keeping buildings that have already been built in use is the most environmentally friendly action,” said Lippus. “Restoration grants are additional support for owners to aid the restoration of buildings in a period-sensitive manner. This year, we increased the budget for restoration grants by €100,000 and the maximum amount of grant per object by €5000 compared to last year. Last year, the city was able to approve 24 applications within the scope of the budget. This year, all the appropriate applications submitted to the office were approved, coming to a total of 54 applications."

Works related to roofs, chimneys, facades, doors and windows and other architectural details are included among the supported projects. The distribution of submitted applications in terms of buildings of environmental value and buildings of monuments and those in heritage protection areas is more or less equal, with 28 and 26 applications respectively.

The purpose of the grant is to provide support to the owners of protected buildings in order to aid the restoration and renovation of the buildings and their details and to preserve the authentic environment, architecture and use of materials in Tallinn. Restoration grants can be applied for restoration of monuments, buildings in heritage and conservation areas and buildings designated valuable in the city planning.

This is a grant for one calendar year. The work must be completed by 30 November 2023 at the latest. The grant will be paid out after the work is completed and the expense documents are submitted.
