Tallinn supports youth sports with €6.6 million this year
The City of Tallinn will support youth sport with €6.6 million this year, nearly half a million more than last year. The amount of participant support for trainees and trainers will increase from €200 to €220.
According to Deputy Mayor Vadim Belobrovtsev, the aim of the city is to ensure that sporting opportunities in Tallinn are available to as many young people as possible. "Supporting physical activity among young people and ensuring access to training opportunities is a high priority in the city's budget and action plan. The physical activity habits developed at a young age are the foundation for a lifelong sporting habit and ensure healthy years of life as an adult," said the Deputy Mayor. "This year, we are supporting a total of 160 sports organisations, 22,290 trainees and 555 trainers for a total of €6,633,288 in the framework of youth sport activities."
According to Peeter Tishler, Manager of the Audentes Sports Club, the city's support for sports clubs is very important. "The support for youth sports activities enables us to keep the clubs' training fees affordable for families, which makes sporting opportunities much more accessible for children and young people. In addition to the clubs, the city's support is also needed for coaches of school-age youth, which in these unpredictable times will help build confidence and motivation to continue coaching," said Tishler. "Developing a regular exercise habit is undoubtedly one of the most necessary life skills, so children and young people simply must have access to sports."
The €6.63 million allocated by the city this year will provide a basic participation support of €220 for trainees and trainers, an increase of 10% compared to last year. An additional €50 per participant for a good quality sports club will be added to the grant. The sport activity grant is intended for sports clubs and schools to organise sports activities for young people aged 7-19 years in Tallinn, and for adults with a permanent disability.
The sport activity grant has been paid in Tallinn since 2003.
