Tallinn’s winter parking management expanded to nearly 30 streets
Starting from December, Tallinn will gradually modify parking regulations on certain streets to improve street maintenance and snow clearing. Parking will be prohibited on specific days of the week or at certain hours, and drivers are advised to pay attention to traffic signs.
Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet notes that district governments manage the winter maintenance of smaller streets and inner-block streets. However, the residents can also contribute to ensuring the quality of street cleaning. "Standard parking arrangements don’t allow for thorough cleaning of narrower streets, which hinders traffic flow and optimal road maintenance, as parked cars make it difficult for street cleaning vehicles to operate efficiently. Therefore, we need to clear some particularly narrow streets of parked cars to ensure effective snow removal," Svet stated. "We hope for understanding from our residents and believe they will find alternative parking on certain days. This will allow our maintenance partners to clear snow across the entire street or transport it away when needed, thereby enhancing the quality of street maintenance."The temporary parking regulations will be implemented gradually in various locations from the beginning of December and will become effective upon the installation of the relevant traffic signs. Last season's successful trial in Kristiine's Lille district and Haabersti's Õismäe outer ring will now be expanded to all districts. The winter parking rules will be applied on inner-block streets where, according to the Tallinn Transport Department and district governments, parked cars have particularly hindered road maintenance in previous years.
