Temporary traffic arrangements due to President Rüütel’s funeral
On Saturday, January 11, the late President Arnold Rüütel, who passed away on December 31, will be laid to rest with a state funeral at the Estonia Theatre. Due to the funeral, temporary traffic restrictions and changes will be in effect in Tallinn on January 10 and 11. Police request drivers to follow traffic signs and instructions from officers.
According to Taavi Kirss, Head of Traffic Supervision at the North Prefecture, drivers should plan ahead and be patient as several adjustments will be made to Tallinn’s traffic on Friday and Saturday for the state funeral. “On Friday, restrictions will primarily affect A. Weizenbergi Street in Kadriorg, while on Saturday additional restrictions will be in place around the Estonia Theatre in the city center. Temporary parking restrictions will also apply in the city center, Kadriorg, and at Metsakalmistu cemeteries along Kloostrimetsa tee,” Kirss added.A drone flight ban will also be in effect on January 11 in several areas of Tallinn.

Temporary traffic arrangements in Kadriorg from 8:00 to 22:00
- A. Weizenbergi Street will be one-way (direction A. Weizenbergi - L. Koidula).
- A dedicated parking area will be available on A. Weizenbergi Street starting from J. Poska Street. Parking is permitted on the left side of the street.
Temporary traffic arrangements around the Estonia Theatre from 6:00 to 17:00
- The area around the Estonia Theatre will be closed to traffic. Only public transport will have access.
- Estonia puiestee, Sakala Street (from Krooni Street), G. Otsa Street, and Teatri väljak will be closed to traffic.
- Bus routes toward Estonia puiestee and funeral procession routes will be affected throughout the day.
- Pedestrians can move freely in the area except for the front of the Estonia Theatre and the G. Otsa Street side near the theatre. Pedestrians will be directed to the Reaalkool side of G. Otsa Street.
- Regular traffic will be restored as soon as possible.
- Stopping and parking will be prohibited on A. Weizenbergi Street.
- Stopping and parking will be prohibited in the main parking lots along Kloostrimetsa tee near Metsakalmistu Cemetery.
- From 9:00 to 10:00 during the funeral procession from Toompea to the Estonia Theatre.
- From 12:45 to 13:30 during the funeral procession from the Estonia Theatre to Metsakalmistu Cemetery.
