Ukrainian delegation explores Tallinn’s expertise in sustainability and circular economy development
On December 11–12, a delegation from the Vinnytsya (Ukraine) City Administration visited Tallinn to learn about the city’s experiences in sustainability management and circular economy development. The study visit was part of a 2024 collaboration project in which Tallinn advised four municipalities on sustainability management.
The Vinnytsya delegation included Deputy Mayor Roman Furman, Environmental and Utilities Department Directors Yurii Semenyuk and Svitlana Yuzvak, and Waste Management Center Director Petro Hrynevych.
During the two-day visit, the guests were introduced to Tallinn’s circular economy development plan, the city’s best practices in waste and circular economy management, and Tallinn’s sustainability management model. They also visited the newly opened Lilleküla Circular Economy Center. The delegation was also greeted by Tallinn Mayor Jevgeni Ossinovski.
Last year, during Tallinn’s tenure as the European Green Capital, the city established an international competence center to consolidate and share best practices, knowledge, and expertise to support the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Tallinn and other cities and municipalities, both in Estonia and beyond. The center focuses primarily on sustainability management. In addition to Vinnytsia, Tallinn has also shared its best practices and experiences in 2024 with Kutaisi (Georgia), Saaremaa, and Narva.
Tallinn has also allocated funds under its international cooperation framework for a Ukraine support program to be established in 2025. The program aims to assist in rebuilding Ukrainian cities and preparing them for European Union membership through joint projects and initiatives.
