Family therapy
The NPO Kesklinna Perenõustamiskeskus and Tallinn Family Centre offer free family therapy to residents of Tallinn. You can come alone or with family members. Family therapists take a systematic approach to helping families by teaching them how to communicate among themselves, ways they can express themselves and how to resolve conflicts and problems. They also help foster closer relationships between parents and children.
When is it necessary?
Family therapy can address family members’ problems that affect their relationships with other family members. A family can be a great source of support to a person, but also a source of stress and pain due to misunderstandings. Thus, family therapy is helpful in all cases where the aim is to increase support within the family. Here are some problem areas where family therapy has proven to be effective:
- family and relationship problems
- behavioural difficulties
- communication difficulties
- problems at school/learning difficulties
- psychosomatic problems
- depression
- low self-esteem, fears and anxiety
- violence and abuse
- addiction problems
- traumatic experiences, death, loss and grief
- various age-related problems and development crises
