Supporting young people starting out in life after substitute care

Supporting young people starting out in life after substitute care

Young people who have been placed in substitute care are offered aftercare, which is to say that they receive support when transitioning to independent life. This service is provided to young people aged 18 and older who have lived in a substitute home, with a guardian or in a foster home. The purpose of the service is to support them on their way to starting independent life and continuing their studies.

The service provides the following to young people:

  • housing or support to cover housing-related costs, where appropriate
  • monthly financial support to cover personal expenses (240 euros)
  • one-off support for independent life (820 euros)
  • support and counselling in coping with everyday responsibilities, developing coping skills, building up relationships and finding a job
