Tallinn starts accepting applications for rent subsidies from Ukrainian war refugees

Tallinn starts accepting applications for rent subsidies from Ukrainian war refugees

As of today, 10 June 2022, Ukrainian refugees who have been granted temporary protection will be able to apply for rent subsidies.

On the basis of the Act on Granting International Protection to Aliens, the expenses related to the conclusion of the rental contract for a dwelling is compensated up to the amount of six subsistence limits per family. The subsistence limit for a rental contract concluded until 31 May 2022 is €150, from 1 June 2022 it is €200.

In Tallinn, you can conveniently apply for rent subsidy online at taotlen.tallinn.ee. You can also apply at the Tallinn Refugee Centre (Niine 2). The application must be accompanied by a copy of the rental contract, a copy of the decision on temporary protection and proof of payment.

According to Deputy Mayor Betina Beškina, this is a welcome opportunity to support Ukrainian war refugees in finding permanent housing and settling in Estonia. "Especially in view of the fact that war refugees from Ukraine usually do not have the financial means to cover the costs of signing a rental contract. By providing rent subsidies, we can help people who have had to leave their homes to make a fresh start in a supportive and safe environment," said Beškina.

The deputy mayor recommends that people apply online, which allows everyone to apply in less time, as well and helps to prevent queues and the spread of the coronavirus. "I hope that, if necessary, Estonians will be able to support and assist Ukrainians in submitting their applications electronically," Beškina added.

During working days, advice on rent subsidies can be received by calling 600 0677, Monday to Friday 9-17.

On Monday, 13 June at 20:00, there will be a live broadcast on the Facebook page "Ukraina sõbrad Eestis / Друзья Украины в Эстонии" explaining the issues related to rent subsidies and how to apply.
