Tallinners can once again dispose of bulky waste for free

Tallinners can once again dispose of bulky waste for free

Tallinn residents will be able to dispose of bulky waste at waste stations free of charge from 22 to 28 August. Waste stations and hazardous waste collection points will be closed on 20 August, the Day of Restoration of Independence.

Although the collection of bulky waste is covered by the organised waste collection scheme and can be ordered from your own waste collector, residents of Tallinn, as registered in the population register, will be able to drop off their bulky waste free of charge at all waste collection points in the city during next week.

"We started our collection campaigns in spring this year, and the results show that the citizens of Tallinn are happy to take advantage of this opportunity. Several times bigger quantities of bulky waste was brought in than usual. Every unusable item that arrives at the waste station is a step towards a cleaner environment. Thank you to everyone who handles their waste responsibly and cares about a clean urban space," said Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm.

For the first time, the campaign was organised in March this year, when ten times as much bulky waste was brought to Tallinn waste stations as in the usual March week - a total of 1,472 cubic metres. The second campaign was organised during Environment Month in May, when five times as much bulky waste was brought as usual - a total of 1,247 cubic metres.

A maximum of 3 cubic metres of waste per resident is accepted free of charge, i.e. enough to fit in a car trailer. To identify yourself, bring your ID card or driving licence. The campaign does not apply to organisations, such as housing associations.

Bulky waste is: furniture and furniture parts (e.g. sofa, table, shelf); carpets and other floor coverings; mattresses; curtains and curtain hangers; large flowerpots; clothes racks; mirrors; sports equipment; bicycles; broken skis and sledges, prams; Christmas trees.

Bulky waste is not: construction and repair wastes (e.g. toilet pots, sinks, bathtubs, windows, doors, wallpaper, paint rollers); hazardous wastes (e.g. empty paint cans, asbestos cement); problem products (e.g. spare parts for scrap vehicles, tyres); scrap metal; electrical and electronic equipment (e.g. washing machines, TVs, refrigerators, cookers); other wastes covered by producer responsibility.

Waste stations are located in Pääsküla (Raba tn 40), Rahumäe (Rahumäe tee 5a), Pärnamäe (Pärnamäe tee 36/Ristaia tee 8) and Paljassaare (Paljassaare põik 5). The opening hours of the waste stations and information on all other waste transfer services can be found on the website (www.jaatmejaam.ee).

On 20 August, the national holiday Day of Restoration of Independence, the waste collection stations will be closed, as will the collection points for hazardous waste in Lasnamäe, Kesklinn, Kristiine and Haabersti. On Sunday 21 August, all waste collection points will be open from 10-18 and hazardous waste collection points from 10-15, as on a normal weekend.
