Smart city finalists named in TalTech challenge

Smart city finalists named in TalTech challenge

Solutions in the latest Tallinn University of Technology’s Smart City Challenge range from lighting nanogrids to 3D tree modelling for urban digital twins.

The Smart City Challenge 2024 has entered an exciting phase, with six innovative projects advancing to the finals. These groundbreaking proposals aim to revolutionize urban living by tackling critical challenges such as energy-efficient lighting, flood resilience, sustainable building reuse, and AI-powered road monitoring.

Over the next four months, the finalists will refine their ideas, working closely with experts and piloting cities. Their solutions, which involve international collaboration, are designed to be sustainable and scalable. Each project pairs at least one city in Estonia with a city from abroad, fostering global partnerships.

From smart lighting nanogrids and water traffic systems to digital mapping of urban tree roots, these projects represent the future of smart cities. By April 30, 2025, teams will submit full proposals for evaluation, competing for €3.7 million in funding to implement up to four pilot projects.
