Providing food aid to war refugees from Ukraine

Providing food aid to war refugees from Ukraine

Food aid is supplied to war refugees registering at the Tallinn reception centre (Niine 2) who  have difficulties in providing food for themselves and their families. Food aid is not supplied to those who are catered for in a place of accommodation (hotel, motel, etc.).

Food aid is provided by Tallinn Food Bank, which has been operating for 10 years.

Food aid is distributed in Tallinn at Punane 48A (Google map).

How to apply for food aid

If you are in need of food aid, please contact a social worker at the Tallinn refugee centre (Niine 2).

Together with the social worker, you will choose a day and time when you can go for food aid and they will add you to the list that will be forwarded to the Food Bank.

Be sure to let the social worker know how many family members you have (how many children and whether there are any children under the age of 2). On the basis of this information, the Food Bank will put together a suitable food package.

This will give you the possibility to receive food aid for 2 months (8 times in total) or until you are granted international protection.

Once you have been granted international protection and a residence permit and you need help, you can apply for a subsistence allowance, which will also cover food aid.

If you do not have international protection, have received food assistance for two months and still need it, please contact the social worker at the Tallinn refugee centre.

The initially appointed day and time of the food distribution will remain effective for the whole period. If you need to change the day and time, please contact the Food Bank.

The food package you receive from the Food Bank will also include food "salvaged" from the commercial network. You can read more about this in the leaflet that comes with it.

Where possible, the Food Bank will also include hygiene products in the package.
