Bicification – increasing bicycle use in urban traffic

The EIT Urban Mobility project entitled „Bicification – increasing bicycle use in urban traffic” aims to promote and map cycling in the city.

The data collected will be used to develop a platform that analyses cyclists’ mobility patterns and will empower the city to become more bicycle friendly.
The project seeks to reduce people’s preference for using personal cars and increase the number of people opting for cycling.

Choosing to cycle in urban traffic supports the objectives of the Tallinn 2035 Development Strategy, which include “Friendly Urban Space”, “Healthy Mobility” and “Green Transformation”.

The Bicification project hopes to get 500 city residents to join the project, who would all have a device attached to their bikes that will track their movement (speed, distance, area, etc.).

The project is open to all city residents at least 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit.

The project’s leading partner is the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (Greece). Besides Tallinn, other participants include the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Nextome (Italy), Pin Bike (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey) and Braga (Portugal).

The project’s total budget amounts to 660,625 euros, and Tallinn’s piece of that is 118,751 euros. External support makes up 74,813 euros of the budget and own contribution amounts to 43,938 euros.

Participation kit:

Everyone who participates will get a participation kit that consists of a phone holder, a Bluetooth gadget with a LED light, and a reflector with a valve adapter.
