Changes in tram routes from May 03 2024

Changes in tram routes from May 03 2024

Changes to the public transportation routes in Tallinn during construction works on Põhja puiestee and Mere puiestee between 03.05.2024 and 05.05.2024.

  • Due to the construction works on the Old City Harbor tram line, tram lines 1,2 and 5 will be closed from 03. May at 20.00PM until the end of the day on 05. May. The tram lines will be closed down along the entire route.

  • replacement bus No 52 will run between 03. May -05. May only.

  • The route of tram lines 3 and 4 will remain unchanged by this construction,  however the trams will run on a more frequent schedule.

Please note: Due to important public transport rerouting and disruptions in the city centre area, please allow extra time to reach your destination as walking distances to stops may increase!

Tallinn Transport Board recommends to use the Balti Jaam public transport stops as transfer points!

More information (timetables, routes and stops) can be found on the Tallinn public transportation website: transport.tallinn.ee (in English).

The disruption of tram services is related to the construction of a temporary Linnahall tram stop and the tram return point tracks at the Skoone bastion stadium. A temporary Linnahall stop will be built on the temporary return point. Construction of the turning point will be done on Mere puiestee and Põhja puiestee from May to mid-August.

Temporary directional signs for pedestrians will also be installed at this location to help pedestrians move to nearby bus stops and to the main side streets.

Recommendations for transfer routes and stops in Balti jaam:

The Tallinn Transport Board recommends that tram passengers travelling from Põhja-Tallinn use Balti jaam as a transfer point, where there are several possibilities to transfer to other lines of public transport. For more information on the different public transport routes that pass through Balti jaam, see the map below.

As a substitute for the tram No. 2 (Suur-Paala- Kopli), we recommend the use of bus No. 2 (Reisisadama A-Terminal- Mõigu).
In the Põhja-Tallinn direction, the bus stop Bussijaam is suitable for transferring. In the direction of Suur-Paala, we recommend the Balti Jaama public transportation hub as a transfer stop.

As a substitute for the tram No. 5, we recommend the use of bus No. 73 (from Linnahall) and bus No. 3 (from Balti Jaam public transport stop) in the Vana-Lõuna direction.

Tram lines 3 and 4 will not be affected by the construction works that will be done in May, but more trams will be added to allow more frequent transfers at Viru and Vabaduse Square stops.

Please note that tram number 4 still does not serve Ülemiste station, Ülemiste Linnak and Airport station. Tram No. 4  end stop will temporarily be at Suur-Paala from 1.09.2023 until the completion of the Rail Baltic Ülemiste Terminal (approximately until the end of 2025). The temporarily modified route will include stops at Väike-Paala and Suur-Paala, and a stop at Pae will be added on the direction towards Tondi.

The discontinuation of the tramway will not change the current bus service in Tallinn, but the Balti Jaam public transport stop may experience increased bus use due to the need for transfers. Timetables, including routes and stops can be found at:www.transport.tallinn.ee.
