Compensation granted on the first day of sick leave

The city of Tallinn will pay compensation for the first day of sick leave starting from 25 March to encourage people to stay home at the first signs of illness.

The compensation will be paid for all sick leave taken from 25 March onward. In order to be eligible for the compensation, the person receiving it must be registered as a citizen of Tallinn.

The city of Tallinn will compensate 30 euros for the first day of sick leave. The initial plan has the city of Tallinn paying compensation to citizens until the end of April 2021. This date will be pushed forward, if necessary.

Considering the high rate of infection, the city asks you to use e-services to apply. If this is not possible, you can also submit your application in your city district government halls.

  • Where to start

If you have fallen ill, contact your general practitioner who will formalise your sick leave. Your employer will forward the necessary information to the Estonian Health Insurance Fund and confirm the sick leave. Then, submit your application using the city’s e-services.

SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION in the city's e-service after 24 hours your CERTIFICATE OF SICK LEAVE HAS BEEN ENDED BY THE HEALTH INSURANCE FUND AND YOUR SICK PAY HAS BEEN PAID OUT.

The system will check the applicant’s residence details in the population register and the details of their sick leave in the Estonian Health Insurance Fund information system. The city will then pay compensation to the applicant.

The e-environment can be accessed through one of the country’s authentication services: an ID-card, mobiil-ID, Smart-ID and EU eID.
