On March 31, first of Tallinn’s brand new CAF Urbos AXL trams was ceremoniously set to track from the stop Vana-Louna. The new tram is called Moonika and will be serving travellers on route 3, Tondi-Kadriorg.
"Today, we celebrate a new stage in the modernisation project of Tallinn’s tram traffic and infrastructure in general, which is aimed to make travelling from further districts to City Centre much faster and environment-friendly“ said vice mayor Taavi Aas.
Altogether 20 brand new trams will start serving tram routes 3 and 4 of the Tallinn tram system, of which 16 are to be delivered during 2015. The four remaining units, bought using an option made available under the original purchase and sale agreement, will arrive during the first quarter of 2016.
Within the framework of the modernisation project of Tallinn’s tram system, preparations are made to also establish an extension of a tram route up to Tallinn Airport in the near future.
